South Fork and Salt Fires Converge, Threatening Thousands
Mandatory evacuations are underway for several communities in southern New Mexico as two fast-growing wildfires converge on the region. The South Fork Fire and Salt Fire have prompted the evacuation of Ruidoso Downs, Village of Ruidoso, Upper Canyon, Brady Canyon, and Ponderosa Heights.

The Blue 2 Fire Information Hub provides the most up-to-date information on the fires, including evacuation orders, safety tips, and resources for affected residents. The South Fork Fire was discovered at 9 am Monday on Mescalero Tribal Land, US Forest Service land, and within areas managed by the New Mexico State Forestry Division.
The Salt Fire was reported around noon Monday and is burning near the community of Apache Creek. The two fires are currently about 10 miles apart but are expected to converge in the coming hours.
Residents in the affected areas are urged to evacuate immediately and follow the instructions of local authorities.
